Community Engagement and Outreach

As board members and KPFA supporters we bring our collective media, journalistic, peace and social justice activist experience to KPFA creating new connections with diverse communities through outreach across the signal range and beyond.

We Protect KPFA’s Resources and Studio Building

KPFA is challenged as the most financially strong station, the only station with a full news department contributing more than other stations to the Pacifica Network. We work to help all Pacifica stations to become financially self-sustaining through training, quality programming and politically conscious premiums. We advocate for a workable Pacifica strategic plan that includes repayment of Pacifica’s $3.2 million loan secured by KPFA’s station building for debt incurred at station WBAI.

We Protect KPFA’s Independent Investigative Programming

We support local and national programming addressing in depth reporting and analysis of climate emergency, racist right wing nationalism, violence and militarism, jobs, poverty and inequality, voting and immigrant rights, LGBTQ issues, women’s and reproductive issues, the healthcare and housing crises, people’s culture. diverse activist movements and emergency resources.

We Protect Listener Based Programming Decisions

We support programming developed and put on the air by KPFA’s diverse management team and staff based on an in depth analysis of listener data and support, surveys, scheduling patterns, employment considerations and community engagement input from organizations and leaders acting in alignment with KPFA’s mission.

We Advocate for Reorganization of Pacifica’s Dysfunctional Governance System

We support smaller more functional boards that represent and are directly accountable to the listeners instead of geographic cronyism. The current structure allows the majority of Pacifica National Board directors from smaller dysfunctional stations to drain KPFA of its vital resources. We want national board members who help protect KPFA’s staff contracts, pensions, licenses, buildings and tax exempt status which are now at risk.

We Actively Support Technical Development & Expansion onto New Media Platforms

We appreciate that KPFA is continually expanding with technical upgrades for 21st century media to reach new audiences on new platforms including podcasting and social media tools and we look to the future for continued innovation from KPFA’s skilled engineers and producers.

We Support KPFA’s Diverse Staff & Management Team

We recognize the importance of KPFA’s many training opportunities, in home studio support, tools to do the job well, honoring contract and staff agreements, and expanding outreach for internships to bring new voices onto the air.
